Candi & Mandi providing Balance Metrix services at Port Macquarie

Candice Bevan AEP and Mandira Chaulagain have teamed up to test and train older people’s balance.

Before moving to the mid north coast, Candice (pictured above left) worked with older people in a multidisciplinary team, carrying out one-on-one exercise physiology sessions and leading group exercise classes at Movewell Hub in Canberra.

She recently worked with Balance Metrix Director Ian Bergman and IT Expert Bipin Shrestha at a local aged care home in a 13-week program that beta tested Ian’s new Therapeutic Balance Mat in a real-world setting (more about that in a future newsletter). Candice prescribed a number of exercises that participants could do while standing on the Balance Mat having their postural sway measured and their movements mapped by the technology.

Mandira (pictured above right) is a carer at Garden Village Port Macquarie, where she has been testing residents’ postural sway as part of her IT internship with Balance Mat Pty Ltd. She says her work at Garden Village has strengthened her communication, problem-solving, documentation, teamwork, confidentiality, and customer service skills, which were high level to start with, having previously won the Executive Dean’s Award twice for outstanding academic performance. Over the next seven weeks, Candi, Mandi and Bipin are promoting our Stay Upright & Active balance testing & training program at Lake Cathie, with Candice at the helm as Community Outreach Coordinator.
