Get repeatable graph and score data to support your exercise prescription, falls prevention or research practices
Recently Balance Mat pricing was reduced drastically. It followed 3 months of market feedback collected by Balance Metrix Biomedical Technology Advocate Catriona Watson-Kennedy. You can now subscribe via the Balance Metrix Shop page for as little as $42.50 per month after your one-time setup fee of $180. From 1 November 2024 there are no lock-in contracts on subscriptions either. We now offer allied health practitioners, general practitioners, university researchers and academics a range of very reasonable subscription and purchase options.
The single-test Unimetric Balance Mat – a quick and easy falls risk assessment tool that is non-threatening for elderly people to stand on – and the StandSure BalanceMore neurological rehabilitation kit – are also available via special order. Enquiries: margaret@balancemetrix.com.au.

A guest package enables an allied health business to use a BESS, Multimetric or Neurometric Balance Mat for 2 months for a project or event. It is suitable for testing the balance of large groups of people during sports carnivals, seniors events like April Falls Month or the opening of a new amenity. It not only enables you to promote the health benefits of good balance but it has enormous potential to attract new clients to your business. A guest subscription includes use of the computerised mat, connection cable, Balance Mat software and test results system for two months. Guest balance testers are charged a total up-front fee based on the usual subscription rate for their chosen system.
Terms & conditions: The computerised mat must be returned at the end of the subscription period in good order. Note that it must not be cut, bent, rolled, wet or stored in or near heat – we recommend keeping it safely against a wall in the sturdy cardboard box it arrives in. If the mat is damaged by you a replacement fee of $700 ($770 incl. GST) will be payable.
University special
Researcher & lecturer annual rate for HREC approval and teaching
$700/year
($770 incl. GST)
The special annual subscription for university researchers and lecturers was made originally to enable the use of any Balance Mat system for 12 months during the essential stages of a university research project. These include feasibility assessment, team establishment, study design, participant recruitment methodology, external organisation approval, funding attainment and human research ethics committee (HREC) approval. However, we have found that setting up a research project can take longer than the initial 12 months we envisaged. Accordingly, we now offer an annual subscription to university researchers to cover HREC approval and beyond and have also extended the same annual subscription rate to other academics for teaching purposes. The $700 annual rate is the same, no matter which Balance Mat you choose (BESS, Multimetric or Neurometric).

Custom package
Customisation
Custom hardware and software configuration
$450
($495 incl. GST)
The custom package is for organisations that cannot operate the Balance Mat online (e.g. hospitals and universities). It entails Balance Mat software engineers working with your organisation’s IT people to enable the Balance Mat system to work independently of the Balance Mat online system. It can also be used if you want different stances and eyes configurations. The custom package is in addition to the purchase of a BESS, Multimetric or Neurometric Balance Mat.
A total fee of $450 ($495 incl. GST) for 3 hours of software development is payable up-front. Any unused time will be refunded once the software development is complete. Conversely, should you need more than 3 hours of software development you will be able to purchase another block of 3 hours and so on.
Balance testing
Suitable for aged care facilities, retirement villages, healthy ageing and sports organisations that do not wish to purchase or subscribe to a Balance Mat system but would rather integrate balance data provided by Balance Metrix in their falls prevention or concussion screening and monitoring protocols.
Under this offer we will come to your premises and test people’s balance on a fee-for-service basis. The organisation can choose to pay us $30 per person for a single test on the Balance Mat in a lump sum up-front payment (see below) or pass the fee on to each consumer to pay us individually, with a guaranteed minimum number of 10 people tested.
You will receive a report and the ability to print out PDFs for each person tested showing high, medium or low postural sway (which has been aligned to falls risk, i.e. high, medium and low falls risk). Anybody with high postural sway on the Balance Mat will be strongly encouraged to seek prompt medical or allied health attention as appropriate. Those with medium postural sway will be encouraged to seek expert-led exercise-based exercise intervention.
Note that only a single Balance Mat test is being offered. Should you require more complex Neurometric Balance Mat testing (see configuration of tests with eyes open / closed above) we will contract an appropriately qualified allied health professional to do balance testing and other services. This will provide you with an “end point” for those who need an expert-led exercise program. In that case, please contact margaret@balancemetrix.com.au for a quotation.
