Better Balance Initiative launched at Highland Physios, Goulburn

Physiotherapists Saili Deodhar and Nitish Mathew are now incorporating postural sway testing on the Balance Mat into the Better Balance Initiative (BBI) program at Goulburn.
Balance Metrix Pty Ltd partnered with Saili and Nitish from Highland Physios approximately a year ago to raise awareness of the benefits of postural sway testing combined with exercise therapy to residential aged care providers across the Southern Highlands, Wollongong and Canberra regions.
They have now teamed up with a local fitness trainer, Tess Wharton (pictured with Saili below, left), to run the Better Balance Initiative from their clinic inside Marima Medical Clinic at 152 Auburn Street, Goulburn.

Tess is a fitness trainer with existing clients. “Since I started my business I’ve been pretty much booked out,” she told Balance Metrix Pty Ltd co-owner Margaret Metz at the BBI launch on Tuesday 10 February 2026.
Saili and Nitish do the pre- and post-screening on the Balance Mat, while Tess looks after the exercise program. Even before the launch she’d already signed up 10 people who wanted to do the program, and two more expressed interest on the day.
Margaret and I drove down from Port Macquarie for the launch, and Abishek Shrestha and Binod Shrestha, Balance Mat Pty Ltd electronics engineers, drove across from Canberra.

It was an exciting event, with a three-hour program airing on local radio station GNFM 107.7 devoted to celebrating Highland Physios’ two years of practice at the Goulburn location and the launch of the Better Balance Initiative.
There were segments of music (e.g. Highway to the Danger Zone … which we thought fitted the “high” red zone on the Balance Mat theme perfectly) interspersed with a series of five-minute interviews with Saili, Nitish, myself and Abishek about the Balance Mat and the need for physiotherapy combined with fitness training as a way of improving older people’s balance and avoiding falls.
Banksy, Steve, Lou and Denis from GNFM were sensational interviewer / technical, logistics and production support for our quite nervous crew. They really ensured the broadcast went off without a hitch. We’d definitely like to repeat the exercise over in Canberra on sister station 2CC as soon as we have some exciting news to announce in the ACT.
