Results are viewable on-screen in real-time as a moving graph and score and can be stored in the online Balance Mat test results system at https://balancemat.org – the Balance Mat Portal – for comparison over time – making it ideal for seniors exercise classes and individualised treatment. You can buy or subscribe below using our secure payment system or request an invoice from  us.

Terms & Conditions

Balance Mat technology comprises a computerised floor mat, connection cable, operating software and online Balance Mat test results system. It is used in accordance with the Balance Mat End User Licence Agreement (EULA), Terms of Service (TOS), Terms & Conditions (T&Cs) and Privacy & Cookies Policies (see https://balancemat.org).

You can subscribe monthly or annually. In either case, the first 30 days are free. Subscriptions start from the date you receive your Balance Mat, download the software and conduct your first balance test. Monthly subscriptions are subject to a one-time setup fee. Annual subscriptions are payable up-front with no setup fee.

Description

The Multimetric Balance Mat is programmed to run five 20-second balance tests with the person’s eyes open while standing on  the computerised mat in these well-known balance testing stances: normal (feet shoulder-width apart), tandem, semi-tandem, left foot and right foot.

For practitioners

The Multimetric Balance Mat is used by general practitioners, nurses, allied health professionals and pharmacists. It aids in falls risk assessment in the community, home care, retirement village, aged care facility and hospital environments, where two 20-second tests (in normal and semi-tandem) are recommended. It can be used by providers for reablement and rehabilitation after injury, stroke and heart attack and for diabetes type 2 management.

For researchers and academics

The Multimetric Balance Mat can be used for research and teaching by university academics and students for the purposes set out above.

An annual subscription to a Multimetric, Neurometric or BESS Balance Mat is offered at a single flat rate. It is paid up-front and has no setup fee.

If you opt for an annual subscription please email or call Ian Bergman (ian@balancemetrix.com.au or mobile 0457 123 852) to advise the type of mat you would like to trial (for 30 days) and he will despatch it to you and get you started.

Neurometric Balance Mat

Description

The Neurometric Balance Mat is programmed to run ten 20-second balance tests while the client is standing on the computerised mat in the normal (shoulder width apart), feet together, semi-tandem and tandem stances with their eyes open and then closed, and on their left and right feet with their eyes open.

Description

The BESS Balance Mat is programmed to run three 20-second balance tests with the person’s eyes closed while standing on the computerised mat in the normal, tandem and one-legged, dominant-foot stances. The system builds on the stances used in the manual Balance Error Scoring System and provides more sensitive results than the manual BESS.

For practitioners

The BESS Balance Mat is used by general practitioners, sports organisations and allied health professionals for the baseline screening and concussion monitoring of athletes.

For researchers and academics

Balance testing services

Suitable for residential aged care facilities, retirement villages and positive ageing organisations

Balance Metrix will come to your premises and test people’s balance for $30 per person – internet discounted rate (normally $36 incl. GST per person) for two falls risk assessment tests on the Balance Mat (in the normal and semi-tandem stances). To book balance tests for a group of  ten people you can pay up-front using the shopping cart below. Alternatively, you can pass the $30 fee on to each client to pay us individually (contact margaret@balancemetrix.com.au to organise).

  • Anybody with high postural sway on the Balance Mat will be advised to see their GP for investigation of the root cause of their balance impairment.
  • People with medium postural sway will be encouraged to seek exercise-based physiotherapy or exercise physiology intervention.
  • People with low postural sway will be encouraged to have another balance test in a year’s time as part of their annual healthcheck.

If you pay for the service (rather than have clients paying us) you will receive access to the balance test results online and be able to print out a PDF report of each person’s sway pattern graph and score for their files. You will also have access to a chart showing low, medium and high postural sway of all the group tested.
